A sense of déjà vu; trying to remove some well-anchored malware from a laptop. Actually, I had seen that same laptop, only a few weeks ago. On to the next step in the process, where the user will be shown the process of removal. A lost cause, perhaps, but when people believe that the technician has a magic wand that cures their problem, it’s time to involve them.

This evening, one of the household computers refused to start. Let me rephrase that; the most important household computer refused to start. Sometime during the day, the power supply was unplugged, and the battery level dropped below some crucial point. Instead of Metro, we had this:

Although we all use computers, few ever face the challenge of having to program the software. Good thing. It takes a certain kind of mind to work through the possibilities and fit the squeaky parts into the right spaces.

One local dairy should start planning for the future. When we move, they’re going to notice a drop in sales. I can’t keep up; despite purchasing eight litres at a time, milk remains the most requested “remember to buy more” item on the household list.

Even the simple things in life go better with education. I base this on my morning, where I spent about ninety minutes introducing someone else to the wonderful world of the tablet. Read iPad, given that we don’t seem to invite any competition. Not my point. The instruction manual with a new tablet is truly minimalist; a single playing card sized picture that shows where the buttons of importance are located. In the (modern) historical context, getting on the cover of Rolling Stone has been something to sing about. Hey, one group based their career (sic) on just that. Grow up, duck!

The official explanation is that my site is in a bad neighbourhood. I’m not sure. As of this afternoon, neither this blog nor the weather station reporting site can be reached at work, due to the efficient nature of our corporate firewall. Or from wher I sit, today is not like yesterday.

Interesting day. In Ottawa, Big Mike has decided to talk about Big Steve (little honour among thieves, according to Psalms something or other). In the garden of the Apple, the new OS is out there, and I’ve installed my first copy without untoward injury. And my coffee machine switch came in the afternoon mail, installed in two minutes and now we’re back to regular espresso. Life is good.

Trying to install a bike trailer, for the last hour. Turns out that there is one bolt on another rack which needs to shrink. Not going to happen, this evening. But that’s a problem for another day. More than a few of them on hand; I need never be bored again.
