Reducing the ranks

posted in computing, politics |

Trying to install a bike trailer, for the last hour. Turns out that there is one bolt on another rack which needs to shrink. Not going to happen, this evening. But that’s a problem for another day. More than a few of them on hand; I need never be bored again.

Let’s keep moving right along. At work, I learned that our latest hire is younger than all the others in the department. Younger than two of my three sons. I feel older, suddenly.

After setting up nine (older) laptops, the mandate is to try and make six “better” ones out of the nine. I can do that. Trained professional, etc. It also gets us past a new problem where someone managed to destroy two of the three USB ports on a machine while installing a mouse. Boggles my imagination. I wonder what life is like, in a world where people pay for their careless behavior. It must exist, somewhere…

The senate scramble continues, and the prime minister has found other things to try and distract the voting public. Look, a panda! The press hasn’t been fooled, but the average voter isn’t trained to deal with anything other than unicorns and sparkly rainbows. Happens at all levels. This morning, I happened to check on the location of my local polling station for the municipal sprint. Not in my neighbourhood, any more. Given the distance, a lot of senior voices won’t be heard. Junior voices, either. I guess if the pool of voters is reduced, there’s less chance of an “error”. The wind of change has been damped.
