Rain venue

A change in the weather. A positive change, with light rain and beach climate requiring a coat rather than something that might get one arrested. Even the dog seemed to breathe a sigh of relief.

A canine version of Pride rock

Back when there were still trains on the Island, and steam was a preferred method, water supplies had to be provided at regular intervals along the right of way. Some years ago, I spotted a modern day photo of an Artesian well, near Harmony. Today, I took a short walk along the trail to where a standpipe (and a plaque) mark the spot. Alas, this is the dry season, so I will have to continue with my act of faith… or wait until the springtime of another year.

Laundry with soundtrack at no extra cost

A whale is not a fish, but whether you see one is still a question of scale. During a picnic at East Point, I was urged to follow the pointed finger. Still not enough to say that the black on black movement was an intelligent life form. For now, I remain convinced that all things are possible, but few are realized.

Check out that mottled dye job

Sorry, members of my spiritual community. I didn’t join with you this morning because I’ve lost the ability to determine “days of the week”. Soon, hours of the day will follow, and I’ll be forced to wander up and down the beach, determining life actions by the phase of the tides. Vacation does that.

Follow the unfamiliar lanes

More new faces around the campground, in time to celebrate the weekend. For us, the failure to properly shop for groceries means that local restaurants are profiting from our sojourn. They aren’t complaining.

Failure to retaliate

Now that the novelty of camping has wound down, we find ourselves comparing notes with other members of the community. Checking to see who has returned. Looking for breaches in the code that binds us together. Helping out. My strength is reputed to involve fixing computers, and the “Can you take a quick look?” requests are starting. Nothing involving commerce; if the mood doesn’t fit, I will suggest another tangent.

Sunburn and seaglass surfeit

I should know better. Long days in direct summer sunlight, combined with my skin coloration, will lead to sunburn. I’m sensitive, so please don’t jostle me, or scratch my forearms. Thanks.

From a cabin to a terminus

Funny kind of day. Moved from a cabin to an airport without hesitation. Now to see how this all plays out.

Impending rain

Against all probabilities, I sometimes take unsolicited advice. Even when it concerns the probabilities (weather forecasts, as interpreted by some of my older relatives). And with that in mind, I won’t be sleeping in the tent tonight. Nor will I pitch the tent in the unused floor space of the cabin, where we are waiting for dryer weather.

A campfire serenade

The mighty mosquito is going to be my driving force this evening. I’ve taken a break from the campfire circle where the last two hours have gone by in a hit parade of songs from my past, only because the wind died and brought more than smoke to the foreground.
