Nary a shot
I gave in to pressure. Early this morning, the local grocery offered up some fowl, with nary a shot fired.

A cold nose in the lower back is much better than an alarm clock; that’s something else the dog knows too well. Before dawn, the message is clear. Outside beckons.

As near as I can tell, there’s only one chance (in a lifetime) for today’s question and paired response. Here we go.

Made sense to go and get groceries before the football telecast started. Would have made more sense to go to a store that wasn’t celebrating… I never did find out what. More free food than ever before, an inflatable play park and a live radio station in the parking lot next to the oversize hot dog stand. A rock band playing in what normally serves as seating for the food court (the one rendered unnecessary by all the free food in the departments). And the usual cart pilots without any sense of direction. Spinning in the aisles, blocking progress. I remained polite.

Don’t underestimate the power of suggestion. After standing in a bus shelter for fifteen minutes, directly in the path of an exhaust fan from a pizza place; is it unexpected that we had a large all-dressed pie for supper? Now extrapolate to the hundreds of flush with cash students that congregate there every afternoon.

Had an early coffee and bagel, but the energy level never rose high enough to trigger anything interesting for the remainder of the day. Let’s put it down to End of Vacation.

It rained, but not enough to change the plan. By coffee time, the campsite had been restored in, on and (not) under the car. The dog was nested among the pillows, allowing slight rear visibility, and the grass under the tent looked VERY yellow.

Unexpected but normal side effect of my morning sampling coffees: Spidey-sense.
My start was the usual camp stove affair. AeroPress and a longer brew time after allowing the dog to lead me up the road and back. Just the old ordinary start to a morning. Off to see what the Basin was like before the tourist
s roll in. Next, a stop at Timmy’s, out of boredom. Nothing felt. All the way down to St. Peter’s, where I overheard some nearby tourists praising the new coffee bar. Might as well take a peek.

In IT, we live with acronyms. No need to amaze you with a virtual bowl of alphabet soup. However, this evening I had crossover communication during supper.

My coffee prep was much tidier this morning. Old dogs and new tricks. Now to expand to full-service meals with a cup of basic black.
