Between procrastination and pain

Methinks I’ve found the frontier between procrastination and pain. The season is about to change, and my promise to construct garden frames has to move from piles of boards to piles of dirt.

The noise from outside was different

The winds came up overnight. More than usual, with a peak value of 72kph recorded. Not exactly hurricane force; gale force… the water below here turned white, and it had nothing to do with floating ice. Too warm.

Home improvements, at a price

If you were looking for me, this afternoon, I wasn’t home. Of course I am back now, and I didn’t find your note, so I guess we’re good. This was a day in the city for the family, although the dog (on car duty) may have found it less amusing than the rest of us. There has been a trade show scheduled on my calendar for several weeks now; today was the day to go and see where we could spend more money.

Updating my papers

The members of my family are important. I count them, over and over again (a genealogist thing, apparently). I consider them as valuable. However, when it comes to getting your passport renewed, the government favours “calling a friend”. Two, actually, with verifiable identities and telephones.

Foam is positive

Thankfully, my personal education continues. Why, just yesterday morning, I learned that milkshakes from a familiar fast food firm are thick(er) for a good reason. The client, slurping on that shake (vanilla, strawberry or chocolate) will have to hang around in the comfortable seating until done. He, or she, might find the need to purchase additional food…

Apply sparingly, said everyone

I’m at a loss for words. Last evening, I noted the arrival of an individual on our back deck. Neither man nor beast, but quiet and polite. This morning, we found the “body”, broken in pieces, lying there. Was he (it) a victim of climate change, or something more sinister. I don’t want to notify the authorities; they’d want to know if I’d offered suitable shelter. The enigma.

Add some “new” oil, please

The owner’s manual mentions moments like this; what to do when the instrument panel puts up a bright “Service due” label. Go to the garage. It doesn’t elaborate about what might happen if you ignore the label for weeks and weeks (and weeks). Time goes by, OK?

If the only good battery (was a dead battery)

Happened to listen to the news, this evening, and came away with the impression that we’re heading into the dark ages. At least, if you happen to use battery operated devices while away from home.

White knuckling my way through the day

Count on politicians to keep us giggling in the wings. Today, the leader of the opposition (a familiar face from just a few months back when the ball was controlled by the other team) has offered to give economic coaching to the new kid on the block. No other comment necessary.

Behind each title, a monolithic mystery

Should I handle this as a mathematical question, or be more existential? Let’s see: 125 ml of solution, absorbed by a porous surface of 0.8 sq.m (it does give me a number, but devoid of significance.) Try the other way: wood, lightly rubbed with an oil (it does provide me with a sense of enriched colour). Not sure…
