Almost fits

More pennies for my collection

According to one reference on citations, the phrase “A penny spar’d is twice got” was recorded back in 1640. Ben Franklin paraphrased well: “A penny saved is a penny earned“. Strange times for those in the middle class of this country. The recognition that pay scales don’t equate with effort is starting to unravel the edges of the blanket. Or in simple terms, who took the money and left for parts unknown?

How often does that happen?

Seeking some effective, but generic, syrup

The price does matter

Odd situation this evening; I found myself complaining about a discriminatory price at Future Shop.  Under some pressure from the kids about preparation of our annual tax returns (I’m a procrastinator that gave birth to keeners), I decided to pay the other tax. Yes, here in Canada we have to purchase the software to communicate with our masters government. As a fine musical group once lamented, “Just another brick in the wall”.

Days away from local hard times

Have you noticed how our world has ventured onto the thin ice known as JIT (Just In Time)? At any given time, we’re all only a matter of days away from the kind of hardship one used to associate with disaster.

Warm weather signals an end to economic winter

All it requires is a single warm night for winter to be over. That is, according to retail marketing experts. My own calendar has some leeway.

Priceless tags

The next time the checkout assistant at Wallie’s asks “Did you find everything you were looking for today?”, try to imagine this shopping list (as seen in the headlines from CBC this afternoon).
