If it isn’t an oven that is trying to attract the fire department, or a garbage can that doesn’t empty properly because the huge whollops of foam rubber have expanded to fill available space, it’s something else. According to one reference on citations, the phrase “A penny spar’d is twice got” was recorded back in 1640. Ben Franklin paraphrased well: “A penny saved is a penny earned“. Somewhere along the way, I learned that if “I see a penny and pick it up, then all that day I’ll have good luck“. Combine the three, and my growing collection of maple leaf coinage makes good sense; common sense, if you’ll excuse the pun.

Odd situation this evening; I found myself complaining about a discriminatory price at Future Shop. Under some pressure from the kids about preparation of our annual tax returns (I’m a procrastinator that gave birth to keeners), I decided to pay the other tax. Yes, here in Canada we have to purchase the software to communicate with our masters government. As a fine musical group once lamented, “Just another brick in the wall”.
