A promise of better prices

Don’t you hate when the phone rings during suppertime? You have to hand over the steak spatula and take the phone receiver into position. And then, try to be polite. Usually, the caller deserves something special – like a whistle blast.

Real NIMBY

I’m watching, with interest, the story out of South Portland, ME. There, the locals are passing an ordinance to restrict the  outflow from a pipeline.

Excessive quantities of flowers

Sometimes, the urge overcomes the intellect. That’s why supper was provided, this evening by KFC/PFK. Oh, so bad AND Oh, so good! Tomorrow, I’ll opt for salad or a period of fasting with sackcloth and ashes optional.

Freefall

Turns out I made the right choice, last evening. To watch curling, I mean. Today, the debate was reviewed – everywhere. Go ahead. Pick your medium. Newspaper, radio, TV, water cooler. Everyone who did watch the debate had the same reactions. With that level of reinforcement, I know that I didn’t miss anything of importance. Imagine if the media people discover the charms of organized rock sliding.

Visual double-double

It’s over. The best poster I’ve spotted mentions that all-Canadian term ‘Double Double’. And now we can return to regularly scheduled broadcasts.

Precursors of a retail spring

Things were crowded, among the bins of nuts. Different sizes, different shapes. My needs were simple, if poorly defined. Each one with a special use, and a paired bolt and washer. This was hardware, not groceries. I needed just over a dozen stove bolts, but I wanted something that had more than a dome head.Waiting my turn, to examine the racks more closely.

Fighting for progress verbally

Another minor skirmish in the city council insult games. The “commercial street” near my office is not expanding. Normal for one side, a crisis for the other. Let’s be clear; there isn’t a lot of available land in the area for new residents or commerces, unless the historically vast “domaines” held by religious communities for the last four centuries are auctioned off.

A new toy for the home entertainment centre

I am unclear on whether the addition of a fruit or a tree is necessary to “grow” an orchard. In the Apple world, it just requires adding a new device. And another one. And another one. Appears that you “can’t just own one”, when you enter the enclosed garden.

Alternate bed forms

The newspaper ad caught my eye, and then the thought processes started into high gear. Next time around, do we want to put an ordinary bed in the extra bedroom, or do we want something more utilitarian. Say, a pair of bunk beds? Or a Murphy bed, leaving the floor space free (most of the time). Do companies deliver, outside of the metropolitan magnet area? Is the cost comparable?

Quick to refuse

Times have changed. The conversation in the workplace really does separate us on the basis of age. And, not on the basis of interests, or political leaning. Rather, it comes down to the difference in how we got  to where we are.
