Losing count

It’s now Day… who am I trying to kid? I have lost count, and now am resolved to knowing that this is Year 2020. Or maybe Year One. We don’t know how this is going to play out, as the sands shift beneath us. I no longer have a need to wander beyond the edge of the property. Someone else goes foraging for supplies, and if we get mail, that’s an added bonus at the end of the afternoon.

Shiny cloud liner

The updates were so appealing: eBay, trying to convince me that I needed to up my bid, because I had fallen behind. I get it. eBay is an auction site, dressed as a bazaar. If I had been willing, I could have purchased another microphone, that I didn’t really need. After all, real radio uses a Morse key. And so I withstood the urge, and saved my wallet along the way. Good on me.

Life skills I never learned along the way

Right now, I feel like there are a whole set of courses that I should have taken in school, and didn’t. My core knowledge is lacking. And here’s the thing;  until very recently, it wasn’t. I had managed to get through the usual hurdles in life. School, family, child rearing, clearing stuff from the dog’s gullet. Got a decent mark on all of those courses. But this?

Behind closed doors

The quarantine ritual seems pretty simple, on the surface. Get in some snacks, figure out how to fit Netflix into your sleep schedule, leave the heavy hauling to others. Except, there are some exceptions, when there are new rules.

What to do behind your closed doors

Today, against all odds, the province joined the ranks of the virals. We have an intrepid traveler that returned from a sea cruise with that little bit extra (COVID-19) and is now facing two weeks of time alone. I’m surprised it took this long, given that the world has been talking about (nothing but) this for several weeks now.

It (might) get worse before it (might) get better

The story depends on the teller, obviously. Right now, the world at large is concerned about a respiratory virus, known as Corona Virus COVID-19. Codespeak for yet another transmitted illness. What is important is that we know very little about this, and so the media is left to fill in the holes in our understanding.

An innovative vacation plan

This afternoon, one of my family posted a picture, showing a seashore covered in white. The only giveaway that this wasn’t taken locally was the palm tree. Imagine that! Sand and snow, not the same! I am intrigued by the whole idea.

Snap! That’s chilly

Today is not like yesterday. In terms of temperature, I mean. We went to town and back, only twenty-four hours ago. Clear roads, running water, puddles. Today, when I made the decision to move my green bin out to the end of the driveway, I had to skate. Ice, everywhere. And with that ice, bitter cold.

Due diligence? Not quite

Today, I had a small moment of troubled conscience. A twinge, really; weather related. My front walk isn’t always as clear of snow as it could be. In the absence of a personal flame thrower, I have to use a shovel, and… well, it just doesn’t rank as high on the scale of “really important” as it did when we lived in the city.

Some site supervision

This is the award show season. Aligns with winter, or something. I don’t often stay up late enough to actually learn who wins, in real time. Last night, the Oscars. Didn’t watch, so this morning was filled with surprises. Actually, it seems to have caught those “in the know” off guard as well. Columnists, mainly. They should follow my example; abstain and then write about things after the fact. Might not sit well with their bosses, but it would save seeming silly.
