Buoy now ashore

A couple of days ago, my marine app showed an unfamiliar vessel, rounding the point. Now, the tourist season is done, so I waited for my answer. Within a day, the harbour master noted that the buoys were gone from our sector. These are large affairs; think of a small truck, half-in and half-out of the sea, on the vertical axis. And the coast guard doesn’t leave them in place year round, due to the heavy ice which can form. So, every fall, the big iron goes back to shore. Repaint time. Given that most of you won’t even know what I’m referring to, here’s a photo.

Stir before shake

With my schedule, I find new and interesting ways to fill up the hours of the day. This morning, early, I began listing all the people in my class, from a half century ago. Doing well, although I will need to look at some old photos to decide if my memory is exhaustive. Oh, yes, the photos… part of another project.

New tags on the tags

The discovery of a body in the RV should have been treated differently, I suppose. However, one tiny mouse does not mean an invasion. We installed odd little ultrasonic devices, back in the spring, and I’m going to assume that a) he found his way in and b) couldn’t find a return route. See; problem solved. The noise probably killed him.

But is it terminal?

If my computer didn’t offer that convenient calendar and day name utility on the taskbar, I would be lost. Going to my fridge calendar is useful, but only on a limited basis; it reminds me that 2 follows 3. It doesn’t help when I no longer have a sense of where in the weekly cycle I’ve landed. In fact, that might be the biggest result of the pandemic.

At the end of a long, dead end road

A few words to the lad that stole a pickup truck this afternoon, and then led the Mounties on a merry chase down a dead end road: plan your getaway! Or not. I actually think that the police should win, especially in cases of stupidity.

Admiring the completed mudding

Grey skies. No odour, though. The weather channel confirmed that the pall of smoke from the California wildfires has crossed the continent, and we should accept that as superior to burning woodland. I guess.

There will be mills

So much for my faint hope. Despite the pandemic, and the passing of a great summer for constructive activity, I had this idea that maybe the next round of technology in our neighbourhood had been forgotten. Nope: today the local newspaper carried the story that we’re getting our windmills. Even if there had been eighty submissions from the public, the minister in charge announced that we were back on schedule. New towers, next.

A convincing illusion

Son #1 just forwarded an aerial photo of our neighbourhood. So familiar, at first view… except… things didn’t appear to be up to date. Our house, MIA. The vineyard, MIA. The firehall, not quite as I had imagined. But, what do I know? Without a personal plane, or (at a minimum) a drone, I depend on the imagery of others.

Need more eggs, it would appear

There it was: an email from eBay, along with a pop-up on my profile. The need to confirm my info, including my mobile telephone number. Oh, and a choice to use in the extraordinary situation where I don’t keep a phone in my hip pocket. I took several tries before I could proceed, and leaving the phone field as blank didn’t work. I filled in my landline number, and it looks like I have made it past the guardian. Still, why bother? Would they want to every speak to me, in real time?

Our wildlife, right on schedule

I attended an impromptu meeting about our local museums, this afternoon. Unscheduled, while standing in the parking lot at the general store, near the mailboxes. No agenda. That’s how we roll, here in the heartland.
