I love a good map. I also love a good GPS. Consider how much time has been wasted, over the centuries, following virtual directions. Go west (using that compass you have in a pocket). Turn right when you get to where the purple house used to be. Stay on the old road.

As proof that I am actually much older than I think, I have moments like this afternoon. I had a former student stop by. From a very long time ago. And we both qualify as old men, able to tell stories for hours, without repeating ourselves. Good stories, because I will eventually reach an age where repeating myself is all that is available. Anyhow, I think I taught him well. Great role model. No, I will not brag for long, because it is now time to have supper. But I want to get that out there.

Very cold and very wet will lead to very dead. That is what I learned, after a third documentary in a row about maritime disasters. Thank you YT. Note that I did not seek out these chilling tales. The algorithm has my interest at heart. All of the stories are about incidents that have taken place during my lifetime, in my country.

Back when I was young (single digit young), I watched someone in a car drive down the bank of a nearby river, into the water. And then after a few minutes of sailing time, drive back out of the water and carry on as if it was a normal approach to life. It wasn’t, obviously. We have cars and we have boats. However, there is a distinct sector of society, called the military, that need to have rigs that do everything. Perhaps not very well, but that doesn’t matter.

I may be having a minor episode of PTSD, this afternoon. I had a flashback, to that winter when I was supposed to become a piper.

Any tendency that I have to order can be blamed on Lego. Yes, I am older than the company, but the idea of logic and modular comes from their products. In fact, if I cannot extend something, I will reevaluate my purchase impulse.
