Despite the efforts of mythology, popular fantasy authors and tree-huggers, sometimes you have to adopt a degree of disbelief about the large, old trees on your property being a great feature. Actually, some old trees (thinking of the popular poplar here) come with an elevated risk factor. In high winds, those trees can fall over and put unwanted holes in your roof. Or, as in the case of one man in NS, detach you from the area electrical grid.

Would you like to know a sure-fire way to become a headline item, around the world. One way is to make it to the top of the heap, politically. Then, within 44 days, resign. Give no reason. Let everyone else guess about the back story. I mean, do it before your new business cards are back from the pribter, and the paint on your office door has even finished curing. Yes, that story.

The lives of the rich and famous are tougher than mine. When I stop by a burger place, I can count on the meat going between the two pieces of bread. Not that simple, when you are rich and famous.

As a consumer of pop (popular) music, I have heard a lot of tunes along the way. The quality has varied, but that makes me appreciate the “good” stuff, even better.

Living in the country, sounds are important. I do have the plus of a quiet house, and no close neighbours. A tractor, heading down to the lower field? I notice. My practical science experiment is over. I wanted to know about how long I could operate our freezer if the electrical grid and my backup generator were both “out of service”, and so I put the solar generator to a test. Although the numbers mean little to anyone else, I now can brag that we would be good for almost four days. Withouth any sunshine. And I can repeat my experinent going forward.

There. My sciencae experiment is underway, and although I will wait to draw conclusions, I’m getting what I expected. The freezer requires “juice”. Not a lot. No danger of running out, on the first day, or the second. Sometime later this evening, I will reach my 12 hour mark, and extrapolation based on a (not really drawn) graph will allow me to make some general assumptions. That’s what they taught me in science classes, back in the day.

Boredom manifests odd ideas. Right now, I want to quantize things around the house. In particular, I want to know how long I can run my freezer, using a battery.

For those that are paying attention to the numbers (pretty much anyone in the province), the lights are coming on. Slowly. We are down below 200 homes without power, which is the lowest number since late in the evening of 23-Sep-2022. Things are going so well that the military (two different contingents) have been sent back to base, because the locals have things under control. Now back to regular programming.
