When the doorman comes calling

On certain nights, when the winds are high from the south, and the skies spill water, we have an intruder. Well, an intrusion. The rain is coming in, to our chagrin. We’ve contacted the door manufacturer and they’ve reacted, after a fashion. That is, they dispatch a door technician, who carefully measures and photographs the scene of our crime. He (always the same lad) renews the weather strips, promises to keep an open file .For our part, we promise to keep an open mind. And off we go, waiting for another change of season. He was back today, for a repeat performance. I have a suspicion that until someone comes to investigate, on a rainy night, the culprit will remain at large.

About those traps

I really should stop depending on the news for inspiration here. Instead, I could simply change to simplistic fiction, and have the same quality as today offers.

In anticipation

Filled with the certitude that my delivery was due today, I couldn’t very well just go back to sleep. Instead, I kicked the dog off my legs, and began a full day of domestic activity. The dishes. The vacuuming. The pile of laundry. Recycling. All done, before lunch time.

In lieu of a retrospective

I choose not to do a retrospective analysis of the past 365 days. Too fresh in my mind. Instead, I think I’ll look at some of the last things I am doing, this year. People in Australia watched the ball drop, or the fireworks erupt or whatever it is they do to salute the incoming year. Here, the routine is different.

Perfect timing

Perfect timing! The snow started to fall around daylight, moving us from a hative springtime, into a traditionally dressed white Christmas. No big deal; this was just a cosmetic cover, but I’m posting two images that have only one day between them. A new world.

It was in the logs

t’s a miracle! On Tuesday, what with the stormy weather and our need to travel, I decided to keep my monthly collection of recuperables at home, safe.  Today I learned that even the sanitation trucks get time off for snow, and so the pickup has been rescheduled to tomorrow morning. I’m on time! A little rain shouldn’t interfere. (Yes, the rain has started.)

One of your lights is dark

To the gentleman that let us know that one of the lights was “out’ on the car, thank you. I guess. We were already inside the community centre, and so later, much later, I was given the chance to verify things. For the record, one of the fog light will need a new bulb. Why it was even turned on will remain as a mystery.

Pardon the sketchy details

This morning, something happened, here. I don’t have all the salient facts, but I’m going to try to outline the tale. It all happened early; long before my first coffee, and I was witness to none of it, so pardon the sketchy details.

Ignoring obsolescence

A special shout out to the DJ on the radio. Not only did he mention the time, but he threw in the day of the week. A small thing, perhaps, but when you are retired and relatively housebound, such things go by quickly. I’m now good for another few days.

Throwing axes for fun and profit

How many more days until Christmas? I normally wouldn’t ask, but ever since a neighbour  dropped the bombshell that we could find Hallmark TV in our TV package, I’ve been living in a world of wonder behind every hedge. I’m not sure I can withstand the message for much longer. There are an overabundance of movies, all with smiling faces and singing children and romance around every corner. If I start to hallucinate about “the holly and the ivy”, I’m done for. A holiday turkey.
