Things could be worse

I’ve tried to stay interested, but my heart just isn’t in the thing.

Tonight, I’m providing technical support for a videoconference. Pretty easy, actually; set up the circuits, wait for disaster, go home when the meeting is adjourned. The catch is that I have no stake in the content, and trying to remain politely on side while a group of elected representatives discuss… I haven’t figured out what, yet. Much like watching any elected group work in the committee format. Think of tuning in one of the less volatile sessions from the national capital region.

Bamboo milk and wheat proteins

On my way to the bus stop, walking in the rain, met a neighbour with an umbrella and a dog with a yellow raincoat. There’s something very wrong about this picture. Put another way, dogs don’t look in mirrors much, do they?

The view from there was frightening

Some things are best done with both feet firmly on the ground. Or, at least, watched from there.

I may have a slight case  of acrophobia. Nothing severe. I mean, that time when I climbed to the top of a three storey house in Charlottetown and then tried praying for rescue by the Coast Guard was once in a lifetime. It could have been dangerous, if I’d realized just how far above the ground I really was. But that’s beside the point.

Personal black holes

Back from a control visit with my preferred eye surgeon (the pressure is under control, thank you), I realized that my eye had locked in the open iris position. Something like this.

Routine maintenance

In my future, I hope to look back on this period in my life and simply shake my head. That is, I hope to be able to look back. Part of the downside of deteriorating eyesight is that blur is more than a band name.

A cure for things I thought were in my past

And then we had the dreaded chickenpox. As kids, I mean. Back in those days, there was a checklist of diseases you were doomed to catch, just because you were a kid. I did catch most of them, and I was happy, because these were the “catch once and forget” category. As an adult, things were going to be smooth sailing.

Better bacon boxes

While out for groceries this evening, I noticed two innovations (involving bacon). This staple of the breakfast menu is now available in resealable plastic boxes or in packaging with tear-off subportions. There, the emergency has been resolved. Back to regular frustrations.

Ignore the man behind the curtain

Applause, please! Some bad science has been debunked, and with a bit of time and proper coverage in the media, we may save a few lives.

Skip the applause and pledge

It takes a few days to get the gang ready, but the music industry was out in force and voice this evening for a huge telethon. Haiti needs and we have; what could be simpler?

Batteries for my backup

The queue was short, the needle was long and the result was simple. One less chance of catching the flu this year. My second variety of vaccination has been adminstered and I’m ready to face the next sniffling soul that crosses my path.
