Wind chill is better than wind damage
Unsure if we were part of the same storm system, but today the Island got the wind chill. Meanwhile, 700 km away, the Rock got the wind. Lots of it, if the photos from the #nlwx on Twitter were evidence.
Based on what came through on social media, car windows were popping out. Multiple cars. Traffic lights went from suspended to debris. Roof coverings uncovered, again and again. A friend that we contacted said that the shed in her back yard had “gone missing”. Sheet metal sliced through a van’s engine bonnet. I saw some poor kid’s tire swing chopped loose. In one new subdivision, the upper storey of a new apartment block simply went away.
Root cause: high winds. Here, when we hit 80 kph earlier this year, I was worried. In St. John’s the airport recorded 16o kph! Enough to scare people silly. Not quite a hurricane, but this is not the season. I’d want to keep an eye on forecasts, later this spring and summer and autumn.
Enough about the weather. There will be another tale on another day.
Sitting downstairs with the dog. He followed me down when I started piano practice and stayed through a few long videos on YouTube. Entirely out of character for him. I had no treats within reach, so it wasn’t that. Could it be that he likes me? I mean, we already have the “get up and take me outside” thing going on every night, but this is social time. I wish he would just talk about things…
