Make the stones stay
A little bit of freezing rain. No big deal, except… every move outside must be measured. We were out for a family supper, which means that time passed quickly. When the weather warning went out, so did I.
Still early enough that the car scrape was simple. No broken plastic tools, no nasty falls. And our ride back to the hotel was on salted roads, so we didn’t have to fret the course.
The dog was very curious about all those people with skis and luggage in the lobby. Had to run the gauntlet of new odours. His sense of timing meant that I had enough seconds to get my boots off, no longer, before his insistent request to “go back outside”.
In the city, there are too many sloping surfaces with ice cover. Include the downdrafts beside tall buildings, and my wait for the needs to be met required a careful balancing act. The dog was indifferent, of course.
Among other things spotted, earlier in the day: people rappelling down the flat surface of a nearby hotel. Face first. I learned that this is seen as “a fun activity” by certain (crazy) folks. I will not be joining their queue.
Curling is on. Playoff games. The Homan team needed some magic to carry the day, but the stones didn’t stay. The playoffs continue tomorrow. Too much talent in the arena for a simple outcome. I’m calling it lucky that the hotel TV carries the tournament. A great way to kill a few hours at a time.
