Not exactly a winter sport, folks

posted in computing, politics |

I’m in a holding pattern. We leave on a road trip, but not until tomorrow. Packing is on the list of “things to do”, but I did get the dog’s stuff ready, so the majority of the job is complete. Now I’m working my way through the expendables (open jug of milk, etc) while trying to get control of my worry side; there’s rain coming, and the sump solution is unsure.

As for my networking cable, I’ve learned that prices vary according to distance from the hub… the city, not the router. While 100 feet of Cat5 is about $20 in places with competition, the local town shop wants four times that amount. Almost as if the owner had missed the message that prices do change over time. I was shown the coil, via videoconference (???) and declined.

With almost a week away from my comfort zone, I’m bringing my own amusements. The iPad will be my only CPU, but that nifty little USB drive is now loaded with videos and music. Enough to get through any long periods of confinement in a small room with a snoring dog.

The big question in the news feed is about how Canada should deal with refugees that wade for kilometers through waist-deep snow to get to our border. Seriously. Just a hint; don’t advertise this as one of our winter sports. And don’t ask members of the Loyal Opposition for input. CBC tried that, and one of those who is in a position to speak knowledgeably hung up the phone when the questions were repeated. “The law is the law”…
