On the marathon route

posted in politics, sports |

An unforeseen delay this morning, just as we were ready to head out for a group breakfast: a half-marathon course, right by the front entrance. I’m unsure how many runners were involved, but we waited until the group had passed, and then detoured significantly. Didn’t want to have to tag along at the end of a long, slow queue. Have to put the date up, for next year.

We finally managed to get to the hardware store when it wasn’t already closed for the day. Now, I own one of those fancy reels-on-wheels for the long garden hose. Beats trying to find the hose in the grass, apparently. I took the time to mount everything this afternoon; no leaks noted. Guess putting those rubbery washers in the connectors makes things work better.

I offered to “do” a family tree for someone, this morning. Have to keep the skillset sharp. About two hundred families in on the project by the end of this afternoon. First time I did a tree where almost every family came from one particular place. Fertile ground?

Our national anthem is receiving attention, in the form of a private member’s bill that will slightly (a word or two) the text. To read some of the comments on social media, you’d think we were doing away with our cultural history, with huge swipes of the pen. Once again, I’m old enough to know that the anthem has gone through the edit process before now, and the sun still rose in the east. Seriously, unless you’re the designated solo performer for every sporting event in your town, will you even notice? When was the last time you actually sang along? Thought so.
