Where would you prefer to live?

posted in food, media |

This goes beyond simple compare and contrast. At home, the only unexpected “noise” comes from the local ukulele practice group. Nothing dangerous, or over the top. Turn on the TV, and we learn that Paris is essentially a war zone this evening. Dozens dead. Continuing explosions. Chaos.

So, where would you prefer to live?

I’ve made my choice. Off the beaten track, as they say. The perfect situation for someone who wants to retire from the “mad, mad world”. Anything louder than a farm truck or three motos, we go to the window to “see what was the matter”. Going out for a refuel, or milk, requires mere minutes between departure and return. The dog finds wonder in the dance of the jays (including the big one that is learning to hover, like an awkward hummingbird).

Now, life in the country requires a certain realignment. When the online delivery notice offers contrast, it comes down to sorting out two messages: “Delivery on Monday” vs “delivered successfully today”. What if both responses are incorrect? Seriously, as the continuous new broadcast continues with the “end of the world, as they know it”, I’m content to be here.

Change of direction. Two more apple pies in the refrigerator, as the fruit of an afternoon of carefully peel and deseed procedures (there were complaints, last time around). A quick bit of calculation shows that the store bought product comes in cheaper, but you miss out on the satisfaction of manipulating a full bag of apples, one slice at a time. Next time around, I’ll see what I can do to make things fancier.
