Finally able to sing along

posted in travel |

During better than thirty years on the city bus routes, I never actually sang along with the radio. Now, during solo time in the car, I’ve discovered a whole new diversion. Tried it out today, during a quick (sic) run to the city and back. As long as I avoid the dialogues of CBC and stick to whatever rock radio is within range, I’m a star!

Yes, I had to go into the city for a meeting (how odd that sounds), and although I didn’t get much done, the trip went well. Sunshine and low traffic levels. Had a chance to meet with the bank; I’d like to avoid making a pilgrimage just to deposit the occasional cheque, and they’re willing to give me mail-in privileges. Strike another problem off my list.

The new Starbucks in the Staples lot is still not complete. What are they doing? I had it in my head that such shops were almost instant. The hamburger place next door provided me with my meal of the day and free wifi. Go back several decades, to the same location if you want. In those days, we still had AM radio…

While walking back up to our parked cars, after the meeting, I realized something: all those jokes about one guy knowing everyone are based in fact. Like being with a rock star! And as a codicil, I recognized some of the people we met. I’m truly back on the Island, even if still in stealth mode.

The coyotes were calling, on both sides of the house, this evening. The dog seemed bothered.
