The dog on a road trip

posted in food, pets, travel |

I didn’t even have to give a reason. As soon as the dog heard “Let’s go for a ride in the car”, he was in favour. Completely. A chance to wear his cool safety harness, and have the whole back seat and two side windows to himself; canine paradise.

The others were out, and I had things to find, so we loaded up the truck and drove to Montague. Didn’t spot anybody famous, or eat fast food, but the hardware stores (both of them) were open and ready to help me. Sorry, no shelf brackets, but I now have a (repurposed) wood clamp to hold the dog’s rope up out of the snow. Also, all I need to improve the electrical outlet situation down by the freezer. Oh, and groceries; lots of groceries. With a new box of dog biscuits. No wonder he was in favour of a road trip.

Now, not all days are this exciting. Heck, even the afternoon required compromise. I baked (sic) two pies, and after a short course from YouTube U, my meringue skills are much improved. It’s all in the temperature of the albumen. There will be criticism – no wild peaks, but the whole thing seemed better than my previous efforts.

Tomorow, a family visit, which means that I’ll be on my best behavior. Whatever that means. I’m too old to develop new habits; here’s hoping my lifelong learning will stand the stead. Whatever that means. I’ll make sure we all eat well, and if the party runs a little late, I might even stay up. Just to watch what the others do, I mean.
