Spotting whatever whenever
It might be the cooling air, outside. Or the sudden availability of pre-packaged “stew veggies”, but the call has gone out to prepare for winter. A sudden interest in canning, rather than simply buying stuff in cans. A desire to plug in the basement freezer and “chill”. Maybe some oversized meal preps, to give us something to put in the freezer beyond extra electrical charges.
Anyhow, by tomorrow, I can start getting batches of beef stew and chili ready; in case we get hit by a sudden need to reheat food.
Out with the dog, under a cloudy sky. The wind keeps us groomed, and the passage of trucks keeps us alert. Ready to cross over to the other side (of the road). The simple act of putting on shoes and a coat fills my furry companion with anticipation. Will this be the time he gets to go? What a life.
Considering the purchase of what the catalogs call a “spotting scope”. No shooting range involved; the interest is in watching passing ships and sudden flights of birds. A desire to see that jay, up close. The range of models (and prices) is enlightening. I could spend as much as I want, and in return the “brand” would impress others (seriously, do the birds even care?). I’m now trying to choose between a “straight through” and an “angular view”; which better suits my posture. In an ideal world, we could leave it mounted on a tripod and be ready to play “I spy with my little eye” whenever the mood catches us.
