Mid-road rambling
At dusk, wandering with the dog in the middle of the highway is actually quite safe, and relaxing. Any approaching vehicle betrays the trajectory minutes in advance, and with a lightly painted sky to define up and down, getting off into a deeper ditch is low risk. Besides, they were spraying down in the fields, so that trail was not open.
Up the road, a single tiny light, hidden in a Hosta patch, shows where one of the lanes for summer neighbours lies. Can’t go in there without a good reason (says my social conscience), so that serves as a turnback point. The dog has duties to perform, and we’d hate to find coyotes as spectators. Saving that experience for another time.
Spotted a recipe for carrot cake on someone’s FB profile this morning. Carrots, I have. And after inventory, I put together exactly what was needed for a trial. Ignorant of the total volume, it was a good thing that I had that oversize lasagna dish… in my defence, the cake turned out really well, and with a quick run to town for the icing ingredients, there’s now and oversized iced cake around. I learned that the fancy blender we purchased some months back tends to clog on anything other than small doses of carrots, so the next time I’ll dig out the veteran “robot”. All the better to turn lumps into strands, etc.
We’re now registered for the annual flu vaccination. Naysayers aside, I believe that my effort has saved me from many miserable bedbound days.
