It could be something else

Someone who was superstitious, or who believed that a multiplicity of unusual events would be very worried right now. To a scientific mind, all of the following things can be explained with rational arguments, but put yourself in the hide of a less world-weary  person. These are troubled times, says he.

Outside, the glorious full moon is disappearing quickly. No cloud cover, so it’s cold enough to send me back inside without a photo to post as proof; the moon is less visible that even minutes ago. Son #3 wants to know “What’s an eclipse”, but it could be something else.

Mon ami Fidel (a quote from a famous song) has decided to retire from his hyperactive political lifestyle. When he came to power, I was part of a two child family. That was so long ago that I scarcely remember how the whole family could fit at a card table. Even stranger, he is retiring before El Presidente Bush. This might be an expected effect of illness and advanced age, but it could be something else.

The Americans are planning to shoot down one of their own secret satellites, just hours from now. That we even know of the plan shows that things are far from normal, because this was one of those “doesn’t exist” class of satellites. Now they want to deep six it with a guided missile. This might be an effect of obsolescence, and dangerous fuels, but it could be something else.

I’m not watching American Idol this evening, even though it’s the first evening to showcase this year’s choice of female talent. All of the English language channels are out on our cable system (both the digital AND the analog sets). This could be technical difficulty, or a response to Pauline Marois actually speaking English on TV a few nights ago, but it could be something else.

I made, and ate, Pâté Chinois for supper this evening. Without any advance planning, or modifications to the traditional recipe. It could have been due to hunger, but it could have been something else. My niece has been drafted to run for the prime ministership of the country without her even knowing of the movement. The dog didn’t want ALL my grapes this evening.

Each item by and of itself is of little consequence. Put them all together at one time and something auspicious is taking place. I’m sure it will turn out to be something else.
