Testing my limited patience

posted in computing, economy |

Certain anniversaries almost pass unnoticed. The newscast, this evening brought one to mind. Just over thirty years ago, I almost “got blowed up, real good”. Saved by eating breakfast. Long story, rendered caduque by the passage of time. It involved the Pope, as a plus.

What to do with (subjectively) slow computers? In my world, we do things that rarely provide a solution, but do calm frazzled nerves. Virtual tea. Although the idea of due fragmenting the hard drive seems “old school”, it can help. The same for applying the (dozens of) missing updates to the OS. Yes, Windows, I’m pointing two thumbs in your general direction. Now to find a suitable answer to the repetitive requests for “the password”.

Finally received the confirmation that “all systems are go” with my pension fund. Soon, a direct deposit of (almost) enough money, each month. One shouldn’t be greedy. No, really.

I’m playing a strange game with an online vendor. Ordered a set of photographic filters. The parcel arrived, incomplete and wrong diameter. Protested, politely. Followed the return instructions. Waited, while following the progress of parcel #2 online. Opened, on arrival, and found EXACTLY the same misconfiguration. Protested, politely. As the instructions on my shampoo bottle advise: lather, rinse, repeat.

Another vendor (same original order) has not shipped. Period. And a third article is wending the way through the twisty passages of our customs and excise service. One more way to test my patience. HEY! I’m getting old here. No time for patience. Bring on my stuff.
