Feeding my new toy habit
A foregone conclusion; the final of AI9 will place Lee and Crystal in the same time-space continuum. Two talented performers, neither quite ready for the crown.
My attention was elsewhere. The newest Mint is out, and like new wine it must be sampled. I have completed two machine upgrades so far. The netbook always requires one step more, given the lack of optical media. But that is a detail. Upgrading was fast, painless and satisfactory on both computers. I’ll still have to configure printing (I reformat the drives each time). Again, a detail.
One must dream. This afternoon, with the help of manufacturer websites, eHam.net and a series of pricing guides, I started shopping for a VHF/UHF handheld transceiver. The chance of “using” satellites is a powerful draw. I know, I can’t afford it. I can’t afford it. I still want it, though. Better an informed consumer without the means than an impulse shopper who ends up disappointed. Besides, there are miracles.
Speaking of miracles, the suits over at BP had better start praying (instead of preying). That silly little oil slick of theirs is growing AND spreading. Ocean currents are powerful and long reaching. There’s a “good one” that loops through the Gulf of Mexico, drops below the Florida keys and then swings due north to warm the Atlantic seaboard. Pessimistic forecasting sees an oil slick that will reach New York before spreading across the Atlantic Ocean to pay a visit to the Old country. Not pretty.
We’re into early summer weather, with the mercury lapping at the toes of the 30C mark. Impressive for May, hopeful for June, downright relaxing for the “real vacation period”.
