Sometimes the story just works
The hero doesn’t have a cell phone. How great is that, when I’m looking for an idol. I mean, I don’t have a cell phone, either. We could be buddies.
He’s also, technically, homeless. I, technically, am not. Guess I can’t claim that we’re “identical”. Just finished reading another Jack Reacher novel by Lee Child. That makes a baker’s dozen of them. I’m still pumped.
This man writes great action fiction. He keeps good company. What I really like, though, is that I can picture the story; almost a movie, without the complication of real actors. That’s what makes the written word so durable. I can only stand in awe. Has the author lived a second life as the most underrated action hero in America? How else can I explain the technical knowledge? How else can I come away exhausted after only five hundred pages?
My lifestyle (and budget) provide me with a decent amount of reading time and access to a steady stream of pulp fiction. That’s why Lee Child stands out in the crowd. His pen is akin to a really sharp knife; maybe a Benchmade 3300. OK, I’d never heard of the brand before this book, but I can handle a story with easily Googled images.
Ditto for the various firearms; this might seem as nonsense to those “in the know”, but most handguns look alike these days. Just a fact of life. I don’t let my imagination stand in the way of the story. I haven’t been to NYC either.
There’s another Child novel out there; maybe during summer vacation I’ll get back with my compadre.
