The fare is fair
My daily bread. A simplification of my daily menu. The last time I actually tried to plan and live under the restrictions of a planned meal system, I ended up with cheap AND BLAND pasta sauce for a record 17 weeks. Learned my lesson, and went back to being chill with whatever was on offer in the nearest kitchen.
So, when I received a request to give my meal preferences for the upcoming week, to cut down on grocery discovery, I had to take pause. Some things weRen’t considered as options, due to budget and season (goodbye, fresh scallops from the BBQ). Also, a side of lamb would require a larger kitchen and access to a flock. What I could have were simple things, that involved one person and some judgement.
I ended up with burgers, subs (on pita), some roast pork. Fish. My addition of a fiexed fast day was rejected by the Council. Too close to religious edicts, or something.,
There was no need to list the staples: dairy, fruit, distractions for the dog. All year long, those are understood. And I probably should add some Neapolitan ice cream, as a nod to the dessert list. You see, I am a person of simple tastes. Cooking, for me or by me, doesn’t require bringing in a kitchen squad. Where do those come from? As a “just in case”.
The holidays will be over, soon enough, and we’ll get back to the usual fare. Sounds fair. Right now, potatoes are more important to the local economy than we knew, so I’ll have to add a couple of pecks to the pile.
