A visit from some freedom fighters

posted in politics, travel |

Some people have a problem with official rules. Yesterday (yes, things have often already occurred by the time I learn about them and react), a pair decided to go for a Saturday drive, over to the Island. Prove that they “ain’t afeard of any epidemic”. Or that the vax doesn’t apply to them, because they are “anti-vax”. OK, we don’t agree with your life choice, but anyhow.

So, when the couple arrived on solid ground (after de-bridging), they decided to go around the barriers, through conveniently planted grassy ditches. And then try to stir up the police. Like bees. It didn’t happen, so they continued on to the city. Found a table on a patio. Had a burger. Waved and nodded to anyone paying attention, and returned to the bridge area. So far, just over two hours of civil disobedience.

They put on a performance at the bridge… “We only use cash. Wait, we also do debit. And look, we believe you are wrong to care for a foreign owned bridge”. Etc. Etc. Finally, back to Moncton. Where the police were waiting (perhaps the flurry of social media posts had woken the bees!). Tickets for civil disobedience that will  require a court appearance. The time required to show off is climbing.

Now, many others think that the pair may be a few bricks short of a load, as we say. And given the need to speak to a judge, the media posts disappeared, this afternoon. Yes, I had the time to watch the performance art. As someone mentioned: even if you take your posts “down”, the web remembers. Should be interesting, once the pair meet with the judge.
