Time to condition my air
A year ago, the idea of getting some conditioning for our house air. We went ahead, because comfort is better than money in the bank, right? Not a big system; one chiller, centrally located. And now, as the temperatures have moved into the “look, it’s summer” stage, I am content with the comfort. In fact, if anyone asks, I feel like this is how I was meant to live.
Locally, we’re right around the setting used as “room temperature” in most studies. This is the normal level in coastal Atlantic Canada. However… on the other coast, they’ve set an all-time record for the nation. And the week has just started. I don’t know if the idea of 50C is beyond reach (they made it to 46.5C yesterday).
We were warned. Years ago. The models all showed that our summers would be hotter, and our winters a complete surprise. The models were valid.
I tend to depend on the weather people for my visuals; all of southern BC and AB are into red. As is southern ON, southern QC, central NB. Do the math. That’s a lot of people trying to find the coolest part of the house (here, it’s still the basement). Outside? Forget outside.
I’ll check with the kids, a little later. They’re under the “thunder dome”, and losing electricity will reak havoc with any cooling efforts they make. Why, they might want to consider an extended coastal vacation (just a thought). Meanwhile, my extended family is also in sweaty times; not a cold sweat, either. We might need those extra beds, if any decide to migrate due to climate change.
