There’s an app for that, too

posted in health, travel |

,We moving into another phase in this multi-month battle against a virus. I’ll call it the “upload” phase, as a terse but true description. You see, the borders (or as some see them, the frontiers) have been closed since early last year. Sort of. That’s a story for another day.

Anyhow, with the vaccination campaigns going well, we’re looking for proof. Nothing like those horrible upper arm scars from my own childhood immunizations. The bullseye. Mine never properly formed, but I didn’t get smallpox either, so that was a success. The documentation from public health is important, and if you can “upload” enough proof to various government agencies, they’ll issue a pass (not a passport) that will get you across the border, eventually. People want to travel, so this is an important principle.

Right now, we have a pass to enter and leave the province. Not me, yet; generally. Some hiccups in the “upload” process, from what I’ve read. I’ve learned about something else, known as the “ArriveCAN” app. This won’t affect me, because I’m already here, on the familiar side of our main border, but there are others who have been feverishly waiting for this. OK, not feverish; they’re in good health, and vaccinated, but it’s an image. As is the idea of having proof that you are good to travel (to here, not from).

I can’t wait for all of the jargon to be sorted out. For a poster that makes sense. For a return to normal, actually. I want to have my bag of grapes seized by an official. Just like before.
