Preparing for the war

posted in computing, health |

My travel through the tunnel continues. I’m referring to Halt And Catch Fire. Time travel, starting back at the DOS prompt.

You see, history doesn’t have to repeat itself. We can take great pleasure in its study, just as long as the trip continues in a new direction. I was lucky, getting into the magical kingdom of IT without a real background, and then plying it into decades of salary. And when I left (yes, retirement exists), they didn’t need me any more. Other people, with the same need to achieve, climbed into my cubicle.

So, why watch a show that is retro in content? Well, as a means to see where I have been. In the “game”, there’s little opportunity to analyze. Now, I have that opportunity, and this bit of cinema helps.

I spent part of the day watching videos about the care and feeding of a looping station. I don’t own one, but I would like to. It seems to be a great tool for creation. We’ll see. The Black Friday sales gave nothing as an enticement to buy. Perhaps a new year will offer me what I want (good price for great features).

The federal government has a plan. When, not if, a vaccine is found that is viable, we’ll use the military to fight the battles. Quite beyond my own experience, but I look forward to watching from the sidelines. Popcorn, anyone? It actually makes sense to use a team trained in warfare, that we’re already paying for. No bullets required, but logistics will be important.
