Loaner pet

posted in history |

Bring in a loaner dog for the afternoon: fun for all involved. We have neighbours that will drop their pup with us, out of harm’s way, when they have to go to the city. Our dog enjoys the distraction, and I find it charming to sit on the bed and be joined by two wagging tails. Plenty of ear scratching moments, and no need to carry on a conversation. Win-win.

Right now, I’m having one of those conversations by text that limits the throughput. Son #3, who has developed an interest in the history of our railroad. He sees possibilities for modeling and creation of diaporamas, and we do have a museum that could reap benefit. Again, another win-win. The rails were gone, long before he ever arrived, but he appreciates that his grandfather spent many years working for CN. Wants to know more. I’m going to have to get busy with my photo archives, which show how things looked right at the end. After that, we can consider a long hike, to find whatever was left behind. You know, in the woods, or at the end of a bump on the trail. Could be fun.

Of course, we still have to get through the winter. Too early to forecast things; could be a very different world by summer ’21. I hope not.

In the pandemic story, we have a first case (involving a youth) where the lack of contract tracing has people scratching their heads. First report of people going for burgers and needing to get tested. We don’t need this.
