Impulsive menu choices

posted in food, health, travel |

Imagine that! Suppertime, and in a sudden changeup I ignored the package of steak, opting instead for a bowl of fresh salad. Think of the possibility for my longer life, based on one simple meal.

Actually, the salad was born out of impulse. There were tomatoes available, purchased on sight (and in site) at the local supermarket. I’ve been out of the grocery acquisition mode for several months now; had to figure out how to open the door to the store (it involves hand sanitizer, I’ve learned). And for the first time, ever, I donned a simple mask, because that’s what we do now. No official rule, but soon.

The arrows on the floor served as a slight distraction: why are both lanes past the chip racks going the same way? Is this to prevent spending double the time choosing between corn and potato products. Anyhow. In the absence of any traffic warden, I did the polite thing, and avoided head-on confrontations. The store was almost empty (early afternoon), so that was simple.

And now I’m home. We had the unexpected arrival of a delivery van (on behalf of Purolator) which both pleased and perplexed me. I was waiting on a special order, and the tracking site had mixed messages. First time I’ve seen something handed off from the posties to a courier, AND arriving before the scheduled date. Good thing I didn’t tarry in the food mart, I guess.

The man-in-the-basement was also perplexed. Odd that I’m not here, every time he comes to work. He didn’t realize that a second automobile allowed me to escape, on occasion. Actually, he didn’t know I could drive!
