Looking beyond our bubble

posted in health, travel |

I suspect that this self-enforced quarantine is going to be more difficult, going forward. Here in Canada, the realization that winter is coming (no GOT reference intended) makes our summer seem even more valuable. Any vacation travel has to be planned with a climate-based agenda.

Right now, my kids are enjoying their staycations. We could, easily, be in the neighbourhood with a single day of road travel. Two days, we could see the extended family. The requirement to lock ourselves at home, after a return leg, seems reasonable. I mean, we would be at home.

But, I have a strong sense of hesitation. Right now, we control the variables. In another province, we would increase the risk of the pandemic, tenfold. And I’m not sure I want to.

The family pressure is ramping up; they’ve accepted the risk. No me. For now, I’m going to adopt a “wait and see attitude”.

As well, just today, there were phone calls from friends that might be inclined to visit. They live in our “bubble”; limited danger.

I am going to have to find that hard drive backup I created, back whenever. My disk cloning did not bring the laptop OS back online, so another strategy will be required. I can’t put all of my IT marbles onto an iPad, with single finger data entry.

It has been noted that the hammock is back on the rear deck. Does this signal an intention to move some of the sleeping outside? I guess, if the risk of rain is zero (yes, it’s a drought, locally), it can’t be that uncomfortable.
