In anticipation of the dreaded school restart
Not intending to start with a scandalous tale here, but I awoke with a stranger in the bed this morning. What struck me most were the blue eyes, and the tail.
Last evening, I went to bed with a shy dog hanging out in the living room. Only hours later, things had warmed up considerably (between us). Not commonplace, and my own dog was very aware that this was a break from the ordinary. We spent the day as one, happy pack; the owners arrived around suppertime to recover their fur baby.
No, I have little intention of expanding the canine population in the house. One beast is enough, thank you. We did go out for a takeout supper, though. Scallops in a Styrofoam container, just uphill from the ferry terminal. Again, a break from the ordinary.
On the radio (because in the car, there has to be radio), we listened to a pan-Canadian phone-in program. On the agenda: a discussion about how reopening schools is going to play out where it counts… in the classroom. Governments are really good at creating action plans that apply to others. I fail to see how prematurely opening schools is going to help anyone. And if, due to “unforeseen increases in levels of disease”, we have to (again) shut the system down, there may be repercussions that are beyond our ken. Probably not enough to force certain politicians to stay home, but one can hope.
In any case, it no longer affects me directly. My school days are past, and passed.
