Water improvement
It may have required a half century, but some of the skills I picked up in high school now make sense. This afternoon, I decided to sanitize the fresh water tank on the RV, because… well… it seems like the right thing to do. I didn’t get many hours of classroom time in biology, particularly water purification. Hey, that’s why we now have Google; to lower the deaths due to bad drinking water. Anyhow.
The chemistry involved isn’t complex. Add a known quantity of bleach to a known quantity of water and then wait. Apparently, twelve hours is a minimum period. So, I verified the size of our reservoir, did the required math to move from US gallons to Imperial gallons, mixed up a bit of witches brew (bleach and water) and then added that to the reservoir, through a convenient port. Didn’t take long, and thanks to a memory of the effect of bleach on clothes, I didn’t spill any. So far, so good.
I’m sure that “Doc Edwards” (my grade ten science prof) never actually taught me about such things, but he comes to mind because he actually spent time trying to keep us safe in a classroom with natural gas on tap, water in the sink, and electricity. Lots of danger there. And with his mentorship, I now might have good water, should we ever be allowed to travel.
Actually, the premier did mention the chance that the Atlantic provinces might allow cross-border travel in several weeks. Imagine the possibilities! We could return to NL, or NS, or NB. Although we’ve visited all three provinces, there has to be something left to visit. Could be something to do, during a visitor-free summer.
