My latest plate of Pi
Good, there’s music available while I wait. I’m busy configuring my latest serving of Pi, and the OS requires a certain amount of patch activity. How much? Hard to be sure, but I’ve been watching the activity indicator for the last twenty minutes or so. Not stuck, just a bit more like “cold molasses” than I would have expected, given the level of hype about this newest iteration.
My heatsink case arrived, a couple of days ago, so I decided to assemble the peripheral pieces: a screen, a keyboard, a mouse, a power bar. This isn’t my first time with such responsibility, so I can easily check out tunes on YouTube while I wait for the next steps.
The tutorial mentions updating the firmware on the SBC, and that is new. Until now, the Pi family has depended on software for any correctives, but with the newest chipset and a hearty increase in onboard RAM, there’s a new process to include during configuration. A challenge!
Meanwhile, we now have enough ceiling tiles to move onto the next phase downstairs: my area. Or so I’ve been informed. Before that, I have to transfer all of my stuff into another area, to free up floor space for the ladder dance. Again, a challenge! This is much like a small compute game I enjoy, called Sokoban, and it puts my spatial talents to use. Actually, I am starting to look forward to the whole effort finishing, so that I can ramp up for a winter of controlled noise. Also, some radio; that new Pi could offer some interesting possibilities.
