As simple as a bulb swap
Change the lightbulb, what could be simpler? Turns out, there are many things. I have this fixture over the side door that responds to movement. And, for the last few days, it hasn’t. Our side yard is a dark place to be at night, when the moon isn’t shining.
Now, a bit of precision is required. This is a halogen fixture (I think), and so I had to find the spare bulbs that we put away four years ago. That being done, I brought the ladder up from the project in the basement and then struck a balance while I remove a very reluctant screw to allow access to the actual socket. So far, so good. Without snapping the bulb in half (strange shape; easy to break), I completed the swap, sealed things against the weather and then waited for darkness. Oh yes, that’s the other detail.
This fixture ONLY responds to movement in the dark, so after waiting until sunset, I checked my work. Nada. Still not what I wanted as a conclusion. And so tomorrow, weather permitting, I’ll do the job, again. The probs promise high winds and heavy rain, so it might not be tomorrow, or the next day.
I wonder how things ever get done, out in the real world. Are the people that maintain buildings all waiting for daylight followed by darkness? Or do they just not worry about foxes under cover of night. I mean, WE don’t have to be out there, but I’d hate for one of our redheaded visitors to trip and fall. Imagine the insurance paperwork.
No matter. I can wait for another nice day. Not much of a Plan B in my handbook for home repairs.
