Pushing to another level
An unexpected finish to my day; I may have committed myself to going to school. OK, evening school, and only for so long as my interest is maintained, what with the proposed requirement of 75 minutes of travel time, but formal study, just the same. In a basic Irish language course, taught by a musician!
We went to a local concert, after supper, showcasing the band Inn Echo. An Island band, even though none of the members are actually locals. The world is changing. A trad band, in the sense of excellent musicianship, mixing their own compositions with sounds that I find very familiar (you’d have to see my playlist, to get that part). I’d love to be as good at their craft as any one of the four members, and to have the obvious communication from one to the other that usually requires decades to attain. We bought their CD, because that’s how you prove your affection in our monetized world.
Anyhow, I had listened to a podcast on CBC before the show, so I knew what to expect. The mention that one member taught an introductory course at our university was like a cherry on a sundae. I waited until the meet and greet at the end of the evening, and firmed up my own commitment to try something disciplined… self-paced learning isn’t the only, or the best, way to acquire a language. It doesn’t mean that I’ll abandon my daily routine, but attending lectures and completing assignments will boost my own confidence, immensely. And, I have a standing offer of a ride, right here at home.
