Minimal social interaction

posted in environment, ham radio |

I’ll take it as an affirmation of my choice in a radio: one of the only sitcom programs that features a ham has just revealed their gear selection for the next season, AND WE AGREE. I mean, our budgets couldn’t be any different, but seeing the box for the new rig, and having a matching one in my basement is fun.

This was a party evening. Someone that we know tangentially has an open house for his birthday each year, and we were on the “come on over” list. No actual invitations crossed in the mail, and the hour was a guess (we checked calendars from the last few years, for a clue). By waiting until close to sundown, we arrived to a crowded house, and I was able to snag a neutral corner and remain the introvert. Not stealth, because we did speak to the hosts on our arrival and departure, but hardly apt to be remembered in the aftermath.

I did talk to some of my neighbours; just knowing who lives where is insufficient for a long term role in the community. And they all know who I am (if not the particulars and peculiarities). Good to touch base at least once a year, right? I’m not getting any younger, and I want to be recalled with fond terms. At least, if possible.

The dog remained in the car, as he does most of the time, and when we came back he checked to see what we had eaten. Pack behavior. I didn’t have any cheese, so he didn’t feel cheated.
