Hanging some air

posted in environment, ham radio |

For the last few summers, I’ve had a dream. Small, but worth pursuing. I want A/C. Cool on demand. Whatever. Knowing that our heat pump comes “ready” added to my mental gymnastics, of course. A chance to accessorize? Go for it.

And so we kept in touch with the HVAC people that did our original installation. They agreed with the idea, but the actual execution fell short. In fact, when I received a price quote, back in April, I was naïve enough to imagine that this was happening, now… not quite.

Yesterday, I phoned back, with a reminder that we were still interested in a visit. Today, the van arrived. The two lads seems a bit bemused, given that this was an afterthought compared to their usual install timeline, but once we’d checked out the walls and doors and access to water and drainage, they put their ladder in a very dangerous position (at the top of the stairs) and got to it.

The job isn’t complete, yet; that might be tomorrow. Or the next day. But the hardware is here, and payment will be important. I expect them to return. The one, small mystery is whether I’ll be paying for what I ordered (their suggestion), or for the actual, larger capacity unit hanging in space.

As well, the first section of new wall (a closet) is now in place in the basement bedroom. I now believe. And that leaves me free to dream of other things. Like a homebrew Moxon. All I need is a short session in the local hardware store, a few minutes cutting PVC pipe to length and my six-meter system will be ready to test the ether.
