An odd sense of cloudy
A new variation on the foggy day: airports in BC are having to cancel flights, as the wildfires pump more and more smoke into the air. I’ve seen times when my sky in QC was “cloudy” due to forest fires, but the airport never had to wave anyone off. Do they still do that? Or have I seen too many old movies?
Anyhow, based on the maps I’ve seen, the end of this summer will be memorable. I don’t care how much you like the scent of a campfire: this is crazy. Hard to do justice to the number of fires now burning, but here’s a map showing the status as of yesterday.
Around here, we don’t worry about such things. Not enough forests. Not that warm. We have a whole ocean to cool things down (although salty water isn’t ideal as a fire retardant). But, at least, I’m not afraid of the trees across the road suddenly going Fahrenheit 451 plus. Rather, we keep an eye on rising sea levels. Even there, I’m safe for the next few years… time enough to build a boat, etc.
There is one story that warms my heart, though. The federal government is looking to increase policing; grammar errors in various laws. Beware the comma that renders the guilty man as innocent, for example. I don’t have any egregious examples, but now that I know the full gravity of the situation, I’ll be watching. Grammar Police, keeping order in the laws. I wonder if they get snazzy jackets, or body armour to protect against the slings and arrows of poor spelling?
