Wet feet
Call it a change in routine: sometime after morning coffee, the rainfall began. Here we are, about ten hours along and so far we’ve received 54 mm. About double the amount from the last month! Not going to start an ark project, but wanted to make sure I paid attention to the “end of a long, hot summer”. They’ve postponed the Gold Cup race, and a number of streets in the city require your Wellingtons.
We decided to go over to our nearest restaurant (for lunch). Great chowder, great conversation with the owner and a chance to see fresh tuna filets, from the fridge. Believe me, that’s new on the menu locally. Before, everything was shipped straight to Japan. Not sure about the mercury question, as I was only observing, not chowing down.
We also headed west, to check out the neighbourhood. Some new houses in place. The small distillery is shuttered and posted for sale (hey, for a million you can have the best shine in the area!). Excuse the pun, but they had a good “run”. Now we’ll have to see who gets the fever.
Company due in, tomorrow, so the second bedroom is being prepared. The gaming computer moved down the hall (Wow!). Still need to get some groceries in place, but we have hours ahead of us. And with that rain, the lawn probably looks better than it has since the year started. At least our new sod is saved. Won’t hide the sprinkler, just yet, but with enough soaked in, the roots can do their job.
