Cooking with gas, for real
At one point, I had a professor that used to congratulate effort with a single phrase: “Now we’re cooking with gas!” I didn’t have any context, but it sounded like progress. Well, now we are.
I had considered a gas range when we were populating out kitchen. Couldn’t find a dealer who cared to order one in, when electricity seemed to suit all of the other clients. Yes, I now have a range that depends on lots of current. Anyhow, the new rig comes with a small (two hob) gas stove. Today, with eggs and a pan, we (OK, she) turned raw into cooked. In simple terms, it (the stove) works. As well, since there were dirty dishes on hand, the water heater was duly started and a first round of wash-up in the sink occurred. I don’t have any statistics, but the heater works faster if you use a teamed approach: gas and electricity. Now I know.
As you can see, the great grey object in the entry is starting to feel familiar. Useful, even. Give us a few more days and it might actually go for a run somewhere. The dog has a bed, and I have a small table to support the incumbent laptop. All the comforts of home. No telephone, mind you, and the flower garden and bird feeders will be out of view. Why, we even pondered how it might be to try life on the road after the snow starts. Ideally, the snow would be in the rear view mirror, and we’d be counting the benefits of a shovel-free lifestyle.
