Threw caution to the wind

posted in economy, politics |

The calendar brags about the seasonal change; the weather forecast belies the condition. Still warm outside, and we’re not ready to throw frost blankets over the garden. At least not for the next few days. Things change; usually faster than desired.

I finally received my latest eBay purchase, after a staggering twenty-two days in shipment from the US. Having paid for expedited shipping, I’m a little vexed… a similar sized parcel, sent the same date, from China, arrived almost ten days ago. And for free. I can’t help but believe that some things are poor value for my money. Are you listening, eBay? Probably not.

Today was the day that I threw caution to the wind and bought into a Kickstarter project. Mind, I’ve already dealt with the firm (and came away completely satisfied). The project is subscribed at 1000% (who knew that was even possible), so the odds are good that next summer we’ll be crowded around a crowd-sourced fire pit. After all, even dreams are apt to burn brightly.

Met one of the neighbours from down the hill, after a fashion. A phone call, a recommendation to a group on FB, a prompt from the significant other in this house. Another case of little risk, I guess. And when I see the car heading down the hill (after dark) it will be carrying someone that I sort of know.

The latest “killer bill” may have died in the US senate, as three of the GOP decided to vote with a grain of common sense. Of course, nothing seems to be forever down there.
