The Grammy awards, for a change, were all about performance. Rarely have I watched an award show that actually would have been fun to attend. Great stars, great sound. The marching band number between KW and JF (West and Foxx) was a “hoot”. Paul McCartney coming onstage to help sing one of his own songs. Sly Stone, with a white-blonde Mohawk cut, seen in public for the first time in two decades. Green Day, U2, on and on.

Today I happened across a site that contained a complete set of Moody Blues lyrics, cover art and liner notes. All were cleanly formatted and the author was philanthropic enough to give full download permissions. It required just over seven megabytes to have a local copy (although the code still needs to be massaged) so that the bandwidth load is removed for this fine individual.

Part of my identify crisis, musically speaking, is that I don’t like to practice. I have no problem with the concept. I enjoy playing my instrument while “on task”. I just don’t have the discipline to regularly ignore everything else. Call it a symptom of attention deficit, label it as laziness, accept it as part of my character set. Practice makes imperfect.

A long time ago, I played tuba. By default, I made a lot of noise…
Over time, I lost my embouchure (in reality, I left the warm, fuzzy embrace of the music department and returned my/their instrument which I couldn’t really call MY OWN).
