Blended

My exposure to cinema is limited. I don’t like sitting in closed rooms with hundreds of others, basking in the glow of cellphone screens and inhaling second-hand popcorn odour. After all, my health is important.

Cinematic ties

There are important cultural ties between here and the Motherland; Britain. And the best place to see the similarities is in cinema. We can’t avoid it, actually. Too many outlets that tie to my TV.

Gems from the Duffy Examination of Conscience

Just spotted a photo of the second house I ever visited. My grandparents, if that helps. Anyhow, the picture was in a Twitter feed, showing off the new scenery on the Island; election ick. I’m sure my grampie would never have allowed such things to be tacked onto the outside wall of his house, way back when.

A knack for over the top gore

Stayed up past my usual bedtime, last evening. With only the dog to share my TV tastes, I opted for a screening of Django Unchained, and found that the particular mix of talent made for a much better experience than expected. Let’s face it, Tarentino has been spreading the (fake) blood around for a long time, and few others in Hollywood have the same knack for over the top gore. As an integral part of the plot line, of course.

A coastal tour

Another morning among the specialists; hard to believe that I’ve been making the pilgrimage for close to a decade already. This time, a new face. Just as busy as any of the others, but still ready to peer through his lens, checking to see if I showed signs of a pucker. I learned that term, thanks to the Internet.

If I were a dragon

My triggers for “anticipation about a new TV program” may differ from others; there’s something coming up on CBC that uses Morse code in the trailer. How often does that happen?

Reflections of our past

Probably nothing more than a coincidence, but now that I’ve retired my alarm clock, the dog has figured out where I sleep. Lie around past 8 a.m., and he jumps on me. Forget snooze control; he waits, until I follow him to the kibble corner. Should I believe he actually understands the idea of “same time, tomorrow”, or is his sense of feeding time that exact?

Client retention failure

Watching the mess happening in Paris, via the wonderful viewpoint of the television journalist. Thanking whoever that I don’t live in a place where the civil order is so fragile. Or maybe I do. Not so long ago that we had our own moment in the viewfinder (Ottawa and St-Jean).

An uncomfortable ride

Still early. No need to rush off and hide under the covers. The Grinch should end soon. I’m not one of those who wait for that yearly playlist of animated fever dreams: Frosty, etc. Fast forward to next year. And bring some new fare, while you’re at it.

Not a minute wasted

Some day, I may look back and wish I’d done more. That old “Not a minute to waste, eh!” model of existence. Or maybe not; after all, a warm clean bed is its own reward. Today, I did some laundry. Full stop.
