Today they close the woods
Wanted: people with proven, effective rainmaking skills. No April Shower level candidates need apply.
Yesterday, I mentioned how Nova Scotia used to let the children fight grass fires. Today, the premier closed the forests. If you have ever visited the province, you could see how that might be an adverse attraction for tourists, as we move into summer. Along with loggers. It might be an indication that drought is not a good thing.
My ability to judge if a few days of rain, like I used to attract during camping trips will be sufficient. I cannot remember ever seeing a province close the forest to all activity, including travel, during my short life. I can imagine what it would be like to have a forest fire. I cannot extend that to a whole province. And they are not far from here. Does that indicate that our own trees are equally prone to sudden outbursts of fire? Insufficient knowledge.
I will be watching this one. No idea how you close the woodlands to everyone. Are there that many forest rangers on call? At least the risk of a steam engine setting fire is a thing of the past.
Is this a short term risk? Hard to tell. If you ask people in California, for example, wildfires are not something to hope for. Will this get worse before it gets better. Probably. Meanwhile, I will not be wandering the trails, at least not in NS. The premier knows better than me. We are a long way from autumn. Rain makers might be a viable option.
