Over at the Shady Tree
As someone that no longer drives a car, and that does not own something that is apt to pass you on the highway, I am excluding myself from a particular class: the clients of the Shady Tree Garage. You know who you are.
You can’t afford the TCO for a vehicle, but you have dreams. With a few (more) parts and some TLC, your rig could be a contender. Just for fun, I watched a few videos, today, on improving the suspension of your car/truck/whatever. And I was struck by the attitude. Give a guy a hammer, a screwdriver and then stand clear. Really. Preferably behind a concrete retaining wall.
There are people that believe if they can get a wrenchi it there, they should wrench. Ditto for a bammer, or a screwdriver. They can improve something that those engineers in the auto plant had decided was already state of the art. And until a wheel goes sideways, at speed, the Shady Tree mechanic is convinced he did well.
Consider yourself fortunate if you haven’t met a loose wheel passing you on the highway. It can happen. Not to me, but I’ve heard stories. And if someone tells you that your car will be new and improved if you’ll just stop by the tire store with your debit card, don’t get fooled.
Perhals I will let my neighbour down the road help me change a flat tire, but the suspension system? No way. Have you seen the C-clamp he stores with his other hand tools. It didn’t get bent like that during normal use.
