Not brave enough to forage
Heard while watching others: “There are mushrooms, absolutely everywhere. It’s mad!”. Well, I won’t argue with that. This coming from someone that has never foraged (if you can’t tell the colour, you may die). Watch a person, filled wit confidence, collect bushel baskets of mystery to make suop, dehyrate and trade with friends is also mad. My opinion, clearly. To be clear, my mushrooms come packaged in clear plastic, with a blue box beneath. Not poisoned yet.
Is it warm enough, in your home. Here we depend on an invention. Therostats. More than one of them, which is how we learned to troubleshoot. You unplug one from its wall mount, swap it with abother one (from the garage, typically) and then see if you can detect a difffeence. After several months of living by inexact science, we determined that one unit was DOA. And so we ordered another one, from Amazon.
The new unit arrived last night. Late enough that I had already gone to bed, and I received the news in a dream haze. Today, our garage is warmer. That’s a good thing, as I would hate for the freezer to freeze. I did check the warranty on the shipping box, and our old unit was out of warranty, coupled with being DOA. I guess I can throw one away. It’s been almost a decade, so I accept the failure graciously. And given the digital advances, there is no nasty bulb filled with mercury. The environment gave a great sigh of relief. Now back to my usual state of warm feet.
